Revenge Trading After a Stop-Out

Jun 29, 2026 · 6 min read

The market does not owe you a refill. Here is a circuit breaker for the hour after a loss.

Recognise the urge

Immediate re-entry with larger size, switching pairs without a plan, or widening stops “to give it room” are classic tells. Name them in your journal template.

A hard pause

Five to thirty minutes flat after a discretionary stop is cheap insurance. Use a timer. Physical step-away beats another chart tab.

Re-entry requires a new ticket

If the idea is still valid, it earns a fresh thesis, fresh invalidation, and fresh size — not an emotional continuation of the last ticket.

When to call the day

Two rule-breaks or one daily loss limit should end discretionary trading. Tomorrow’s liquidity will still be there.
